ASIA HOUSE
Cambodia was represented in the opening art exhibition at Asia House by Khmer Head, “Avalokitesvara” of the 12th Century, during the reign of Jayavarman VII (1181-1201 A.D.). The exquisite sculpture is of greenish sandstone with a brown patina and stands 16 1/2 inches high. It is from the Nelson Gallery of Art in Kansas City, Missouri.
The American visitor who finds it absorbing is Mrs. Germain Seligman, a long time member of the staff and for several years acting director of the Nelson Gallery in Kansas City. “Why here is an old friend,” exclaimed Mrs. Seligman as she came upon the Buddha head in her tour of the Asia House Gallery.
